Red Ledge / Prorainer Fabrics

Coolmax® Dupont's hydrophobic copolymer, four-channel fiber fabric; lightweight with superior moisture management. (Coolmax® is a registered trademark of DuPont.)

Cordura® DuPont’s air-textured nylon yarns durable and abrasion resistant. Available in several weights. (Cordura® is a registered trademark of DuPont.)

Denier The international system for the numbering of silk and man-made filament yarns and fibers. Low numbers represent finer sizes; higher numbers, heavier yarns

DWR Durable Water Repellent. A semi-permanent substance applied to the surface of a fabric to help repel moisture.

Grizzly Fleece Our proprietary fleece that incorporates such features as wind resistance, high breathability, a soft non-pill finish and is non-absorbent and quick drying

Hollofil® Dupont’s high loft insulation made with hollow polyester fibers. The finished product is lightweight and warm. (Hollofil® is a registered trademark of DuPont.)

Hydrophilic Fibers that are able to absorb water easily.

Hydrophobic Fibers that have difficulty absorbing water and are only able to absorb small amounts.

Hytrel® Dupont’s waterproof and windproof polyester elastomer membrane. It passes water vapor by absorbing it into the material diffusing it across the membrane and evaporating it on the other side. (Hytrel® is a registered trademark of DuPont.

Lamination The process of binding one fabric to another through heating or the use of an adhesive.

Lycra® DuPont’s fabric which stretches five times its length with full recovery to enhance fit and performance characteristics of other knit or woven fabrics. (Lycra® is a registered trademark of DuPont.)

Membrane Generally refers to a coating or laminate on a basic fabric, offering a barrier to wind and water.

Needle-Punch A method that involves the entanglement of fibers to hold them together. The process for making this material consists of passing a continuous web of fibers through a needle-punch machine.

Nylon Taffeta Lining A nylon that is smooth, strong, and slides easily over layering pieces.

Oxford A nylon characterized by a modified plain or basket weave; durable and abrasion resistant.

Pilling Small balls of fiber that form on the surface of fabrics, usually caused by abrasion.

Polyester Mesh Highly breathable and light weight. It has smooth, non-abrasive finish that lets it slide easily over layering pieces.

Ripstop Woven finish with double thread at regular intervals providing a windowpane pattern and adding stretch to the fabric.

Scotchgard®3M A water and oil repellent finish.

Scotchlite®3M A reflective material that greatly enhances your safety at night and in low visibility situations by creating an extremely bright image that motorists can see from a distance.

Seam Sealing Application of seam tape or seam-sealing glue along a garment’s stitch line to prevent water leakage.

Taffeta A nylon with a plain weave and possessing a fine, smooth, crisp and either lustrous or dull face; fabric usually has a fine cross rib

Taslan An air-jet textures nylon yarn used to create fabric noted for its lightweight, durable, strong and abrasion-resistant properties.

T-Core LX® Our trademark for all our proprietary waterproof/breathable laminate.

T-Core® Our trademark for all our proprietary waterproof/breathable coating.

Teflon® Dupont’s protective finish that delivers durable, long-lasting protection by forming a molecular bond with the fibers, guarding them from oil and water-based stains. (Teflon® is a registered trademark of DuPont.)

Thermolite Plus® DuPont’s synthetic insulation. Keeps you warmer than down when damp without excess bulk. Dries quickly and maintains its performance over time. (Thermolite Plus® is a registered trademark of Dupont.)

Three-Layer Laminate Our three-layer laminate is constructed of an outer layer of material, our proprietary, T-Core LX® waterproof/breathable membrane and an inner layer of lightweight nylon tricot, which protects the membrane from abrasions.

Two-Layer Laminate Our two-layer material constructed of an out shell laminated with our proprietary, T-Core LX® waterproof/breathable membrane. Usually lined with a separate lining material to help in moisture desperation.

YKK® Zipper type predominantly used by Red Ledge® /Pro Rainer®. Known for exceptional quality and reliability.
